Paul Hammons

Current West Ranch Player

They say all left-handers are a little weird. Is there a strange side to Paul that most people don’t know about? Or are you just an average Joe?

No. I think I’m pretty normal. I like to goof around when I’m with people I know, but nothing too weird.

You are a fantastic soccer player who recently decided to pursue baseball full time. Can you talk about what went into making that decision?

It was definitely a tough decision to make and it will be for my entire high school life. Ultimately with the soccer season coming up I knew I would be missing a ton of baseball and so I decided to just stick with to one sport for the time being. Baseball is where I was/am the happiest and it seemed like the obvious choice.

What is your favorite sports memory?

In my first year of coach pitch, I hit an inside-the-park homerun and my whole team, including my mom, came out on the field to cheer.

Along with Andrew Reed, you are probably the best player we have at answering trivia questions from the coaching staff. Is it something that comes naturally to you or do you put in a lot of study time, watch the news or follow sports?

It’s a little bit of all those things I think. I pay attention in class, but I hate studying. I’m a huge sports buff. I get up early and watch Sportscenter every morning and occasionally read the sports section.

I’ve noticed that you’re a big fan of bands like AFI, Rancid and Flogging Molly. What three bands would make up the greatest concert of all time?

Of course AFI (pre-make up or not, it’s all good). Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Probot, Pocket Watch) and Dropkick Murphys.

Tell us something about that nobody knows.

From the age of three until a few years ago I didn’t eat Taco Bell because I thought I was allergic to the restaurant.

If you were tied to a chair and forced to watch a movie over and over again, which movie would you choose?

I would choose A Night at the Roxbury because it’s a classic. It’s about two brothers that go clubbing every night. What could be better?

In your spare time would you rather A) play video games B) go outside and be active C) talk on the phone with females til the wee hours of the morning?

A little bit of all three I guess.

If you could take any girl on the planet to the Winter Formal who would it be?

I’d take my girlfriend, Haylee, because she is my dream date. But if I were choosing a celebrity it would have to be Gwen Stefani. (Editor’s Note: What a great effort at political correctness. Way to keep the peace. Well done!)

Describe your favorite meal down to the side dishes and drinks.

It would be my mom’s baked chicken with rolls, corn on the cob and a coke.

Is there someone in your life that has had a major influence on your character?

That would definitely be my dad. We are exactly the same. Both of my parents have had a major influence on my character.

What are your impressions of West Ranch baseball to this point?

The program is great. Even in the brief time that we have been together anybody can see that we are going to be successful.
